Photo Essay
- The subject of this photo series was the mix of industrial pieces with nature at Battleship Cove in Fall River, MA. I selected this place because this specific area hold very interesting pieces, while Fall River in general perfectly displays my concept. The narrative of this essay was to portray the beauty between both nature and manmade industrial works, and to glorify nature's ability to achieve the seemingly impossible by growing in such poor conditions. My images capture this motive by showing the harmony between the two subjects. By photographing dew, the reflection of water, and the branches of a bush with a battleship, trains, and fencing, that said balance is created. At the beginning of the series, you can see the similarity that occurs through lines leading you deeper into the story. These photos also have a lower exposure, due to the slight showers that day, and is mostly composed of closeups. The overcast rain showers allowed for the colors to appear as they appeared in person with no tint. The angle of every photo was either straight on, or slightly downward. I visually unified my photos through multiple steps. First, I had the darker composed photos with lines leading inwards at the beginning of the series. I separated the two sets of photos of very similar subjects, the allow for an overall unity. As you follow through the rest of the photos, the composition gradually gets lighter. To close off the series, I put the second photograph of a train, due to the fact that I had begun the series with a similar photograph.
